SKILL TRAINING

SKILL TRAINING

  •  Vocational Training: This is designed to impart need-based, employable and innovative skills training for sustainable livelihood and income generation in the informal sector. It includes on-the-job training, assignments, projects and field visits. Valuable life skills are also integrated into the curriculum through an interactive teaching process. The main target groups for this training are school leavers, dropouts, economically and socially weaker section of society, unemployed or underemployed men and women.
  • Skill Training Initiatives: DBYK (Don Bosco Yuva Kendra), Najafgarh, is a non-formal skills training institution located in the outskirts of Delhi. It offers skills training for poor and marginalized youth and women of the locality. To reach the women in the migrant colonies and socially disadvantaged villages, the institute has set up outreach training centers. Don Bosco has collaborated with NVTS (National Vocational Training System) in 2004 to expand its activities through diversification of training offers, curriculum development, and support in the replication of successful course programs to its own as well as other training institutions. Few of the skill trainings imparted here include:
    • Electrical Training
    • Refrigeration and AC Training
    • Tailoring Training
    • Beauty Culture Training
    • Plumbing Training
    • Automotive Training
    • Retail Sales Training, etc.

  • Training for Staff: This includes periodical trainings imparted to staff of Bosco to upgrade and enhance their skills in different field’s vis-à-vis to better equip them to train other personnel who are in charge of providing life skills and vocational training to the socially and economically vulnerable class of people. Often, even though these people may be very knowledgeable about their respective field of training ie. Tailoring, driving, electrical, etc. they may not have the knack of imparting this knowledge to other people. Thus, for this reason the staffs of Bosco are trained to facilitate these trainers with the know-how for becoming better and effective trainers in their respective field.
  •  Life skills Training: To enable the aspirants (marginalized youth) to face the world confidently, they are trained in various life skills such as positive thinking, self-esteem, communication, team building, decision-making, SWOT analysis, goal setting, gender issues and time/money management.
  • EDP, Entrepreneur Development Program: This program is basically designed and developed to identify, nurture and enhance the entrepreneurial skills, which are lying hidden among the marginalized or vulnerable youth to empower them to take up independent stand in the society and initiate small-scale business, which can provide them with a source of livelihood. It ensures that these youth are not dependent on others for their livelihood and moreover, they are not exploited by the so-called affluent class but are self-sufficient. The purpose of EDP is to develop individuals across socio-economic backgrounds, who are instilled with the courage to dream, the drive to make a difference, the ability to believe in themselves and the persistence to convert their thoughts into action.

EDP training includes all aspects from dream building to behavioral skills and basic qualities of an entrepreneur like risk taking, managing resources, solving problems, thinking innovatively to functional skills like finance, accounts, marketing, etc. This program strives to prepare a pool of next generation entrepreneurs who, through their dreams and action, would contribute to the economic and social development.
